A Prayer for Copenhagen
A prayer by one of our members, Terry Chapman for the gathering of nations in Copenhagen...
The nations have sunk in the pit that they made;
in the net that they hid has their own foot been caught.
Psalm 9:15
May the Congregation of 192 nations gathered around the Danish table
- a board groaning under the weight of illusive abundance,
weakened by the loosening screws of imperialistic powers,
adorned with the laced cloth of preservation and greed
that has fallen down around their feet,
now fully entangled ready to trip them and all the world
into an intractable pit
- find the courage and the will
to get up from the table
disentangle us from the net of blind inertia
and lead us out onto what remains of the day.
Amen

Beautiful affirmation of faith written by young stewards at the Faith & Environment conference
Affirmation of Faith
written by 2009 Eco Stewards
For the Faith and Environment Conference
Montreat, NC
I believe in God, the Creator and Lord of all that is.
In your hand is the life of every thing--
of trees and plants, animals and insects--
and the breath of every human being.
I believe in Jesus the Christ, the Redeemer of all that we have damaged,
our broken souls and our broken world,
who offers new life when we love our neighbors,
neighbors sun and soil, water and air.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Sustainer of this community and future generations,
and the source of hope and courage to care about creation,
especially when sustainability seems hopeless.
We promise to work together and with God, to be stewards of this gift, our home.

National Eco Justice Conference 2009
Follow-up activity and evaluation reviews are underway from the national conference this summer. I'm now about the task of identifying the best website format for the high functionality we hope to provide members. Online access to links and resources - including workshop materials from conference, and that ever-evasive slide presentation by Dr. Howard Frumkin - will be posted for your use in your eco-stewardship work in your congregation.
While awaiting the new website (due to be unveiled in September), become a fan of the new PEC Facebook page.
See you there!
